Zone of Balance

Earlier, in the Detroit neighborhood, Zone 8 I spotted art amongst the pervasive abandonment. So, I grabbed my mat from the trunk and eased into Sirsasana-headstand on the tall grass to express my gratitude for the artist, the area and the practice.

Slowly, I built a foundation, lifted my body using core strength and drew my SpaceJam Jordans to the wall where I began to reap the benefits of "one of the most dynamic postures in all the series-David Swenson "

The pose is beneficial because it:

Aids digestion
Revitalizes the mind
Strengthens lungs
Helps reduce colds, cough and asthma
Increases blood flow to the brain

In his book "Light on Yoga," renowned yoga teacher B.K.S. Iyengar calls sirsasana the "king of all asanas" because of it's positive effects on your body, mind and spirit.

I felt the effects. You can too. Check out a yoga class and discover your zone of balance.
